GENERAL QUESTIONS:
Q: What is alafoss.is? 

A: Alafoss.is is an online store of the Alafoss Wool Store. For more information, please view About Alafoss.
Q: Where is Alafoss Wool Store located?

A: Our main store is located in Mosfellsbær, about 15 minutes outside Reykjavík. We also have a small store in Reykjavík city center. Our website, alafoss.is, is open 24 hours. For hours and directions, you can learn more here: Store Hours and Direction.
Q: How much does the shipping cost and do you ship to my country?

A: We offer world-wide shipping. We recommend you creating a FREE account by registering on our site. The final shipping cost is calculated based on the weight of the items you have in cart and on your shipping address. You will see the final costs on your order after you have placed items in cart and click the "Checkout" button. You do not have to proceed to the payment section to see the final shipping cost. If you do not see your country on the shipping list, please  Contact Us.
Q: Do I need to set up an account to place an order?

A: You can shop at alafoss.is without creating an account. However, if you register your FREE account, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of for example track your orders and review past purchases and save your billing and shipping information so you can shop even quicker next time you visit alafoss.is.
Q: How do I order from alafoss.is?

A: Please find information below for general ordering questions. If you can't find an answer to your question, please do not hesitate in contacting us.
  • Choose the item that you are interested in, select the quantity and click on the "Add to Cart" button.
  • Continue this process for all the items that you are interested in.
  • In the upper bar on the left side, select the Checkout.
  • If you are a new customer, we recommend you registering with a FREE account. Then you add your billing and shipping information along with secure login and password information. This will allow you to easilly view your past orders and order again without having to re-enter all your basic information.
  • If you are a returning customer, please log in to your account.
  • Follow the information provided and confirm your shipping address and shipment.
  • After you have confirmed the Terms and Conditions, you can click on the "Place Order" button that will take you to our PCI complient secure credit card processing system.
  • If you need further information, please Contact Us and we will gladly assist you with the ordering process.
Q: I need help with the registration process, can you help me?

A: We are here for you! Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding the registration process or for any other questions you may have. If you need further information, please Contact Us and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Q: Can I order online and then pick up the products in-store?

A: Yes, of course. We ship all our products from our store in Mosfellsbær. You can either purchase the items in our store - or order online and pick up an already placed order in our store in Mosfellsbær. We will send you an email when your order is ready for pick up.
Q: I can't find the product I am looking for?

A: We are constantly adding more products to our selection online. If you are looking for something that you can't find online or have a suggestion of products that you would like to see, we would love to hear from you and will do our best to meet your needs. Please use the Contact Us form to let us know.
Q: I'm having difficulties placing an order / I get an error....?

A: If you experience any difficulties while browsing or ordering through our website, please contact us and we will reply as soon as possible. We truly apologize for any inconvenience in advance. In the mean time, sometimes it helps to try a different browser or disable any pop-up blockers.
Q. Are there any additional costs to be added?

A. We do not pay the import taxes on your behalf when they reach your country. If additional fees are added by the customs in the country of the receiver, the cost is born by the receiver.

Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you should contact your local customs office for further information. Additionally, when ordering from Shopicelandic, you are considered the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you are receiving the goods.
KNITTING QUESTIONS:
Q: What is the difference between Alafoss Lopi and Lettlopi? 

A: Léttlopi (or lopi lite) yarn is half the weight of Álafoss lopi.
Q: Where can I see the colors of the yarn I am interested in? 

A: You can browse through the different types of yarn we have available and find the complete description and color information on our website.
You can also purchase color sample cards so you can have a "look-and-feel" and samples of all the colors of the yarn you are interested in. Browse through the available colors cards here.
Q: What is a dye lot? 

A: Dye Lot is the batch the yarn was dyed in. All of the yarn in one batch will be the exact same color and will have the same dye lot number on the label of the yarn. View an example of the labelled yarn by clicking here.

This yarn is Léttlopi with Color number 1420 and the Dye Lot number 4422. Yarns from a different batch may vary in color. The colors of two different dye lots may look the same under certain lights and very different under other lights or in bright daylight. Unfortunately, we are not always able to match dye lots as the batch may be sold out and therefore we strongly encorage you to purchase sufficient amount of yarn from the idential lot before you begin on a new knitting project.

Q: Can I change the needle size (or hook size) and make a pattern larger or smaller?

A: In order to be sure the project you are working on will be in the size you intend it to be, you must work to the gauge of the pattern. Changing the needle or hook size is inaccurate and the results may or may not be satisfactory. We recommend you select the pattern based on the yarn type you want to use or vice versa.

SECURITY QUESTIONS:
Q: Is it safe to use my credit card through alafoss.is? 

A: We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure and have implemented a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you place an order or enter, submit, or access your personal information. 

The fastest way to place an order is by using the secure checkout on the web site. The checkout allows you to securely pay with your credit card. Credit card transactions are protected via the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol, the adopted standard for processing secure credit card orders over the Internet.

All payments will be made through a highly secure payment website from Valitor ehf. in Iceland. Your credit card information will not be stored on our servers and alafoss.is does not have any access to view your credit card information at any point.  All online communication is encoded according to strict standards. Valitor ehf is one of few companies in Iceland which have PCI certification (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). According to the international Card Companies, any entity that handles and/or services card information needs to be PCI certified. Valitor therefore meets all security requirements for handling and/or servicing card information. Alafoss will not see or keep the credit card information.
Q: Will you share my email with others? 

A: No, we take your privacy concerns very seriously. We will not sell or share your email information or other information with others.
Q: I can't find an answer to my question, what do I do? 

A: We are constantly trying to improve by updating the information provided on the website. If you feel like something is missing or if you need an answer to a question, we would truly appreciate if you would Contact Us. We will answer as soon as possible - and if it's should belong on this FAQ page, we will definitely add it.
