Icelandic Color Knitting - Rose pattern insert knitting in a new light by Héléne Magnússon.
This is a review of the history of traditional rose-pattern insert knitting in Iceland and the methods used in making shoe inserts. Inserts or rose-pattern inserts are knitted insoles that were traditionally worn in soft shoes made from fishskin or sheepskin for comfort and for decoration.
The work is based on a professional study of a handwork heritage, which the author interprets with great respect and develops in a refreshingly innovative way.
The book preserves old, uniquely Icelandic knowledge that has almost been lost and suggests ways in which to use these techniques in contemporary design.
